Spam (and it's not another Cameron joke)

I've been getting a bit of spam recently, which is slightly irritating. It's never posted on the most recent entry on the blog; always on an older one, so I presume they think it is likely to remain there undetected. Don't they realise we bloggers get an e-mail alert every time something is posted on our blogs, even on the oldest of posts? This one, the most recent, is fairly typical:

'Nail art' was a link, now deactivated, to a website which unsurprisingly is about nail art. As always with spam, the text is worded in a general way to try to sound interested in the subject matter, but is so neutral and non-specific that the whole thing can be cut and pasted into a blog about anything at all. On a previous occasion, a link took me through to the website of a London escort agency: much as I liked the idea that these beautiful women were fascinated by my view of the temperature of the beer in a Liverpool pub, for some reason I was unconvinced. 

Apart from being irritated, I sometimes wonder whether someone takes the time to go through blogs actually posting these adverts themselves, or are they posted at random by a computer programme?

Wrong messages

There has been no spam posted in this blog for ages - until this week when I've had two items. One that I've just deleted was from a Liverpool business woman. Does she really think it's a good idea to advertise her driving school on a beer and music blog? 

Sending all the wrong messages ... (et cetera ad nauseam)

P.S. 28 October: I've just deleted more spam from a different driving school. Do they actually look where they're posting their spam?

SPAM

I'm mystified as to how some spammers find my little blog.  I don't have the huge readership that some beer bloggers such as Tandleman have.  Perhaps he gets a lot more spam than I do. Recently I have had postings about holidays in Jaipur, an advert for a music website (at least I can see a link there), and today a comment, "An interesting posting. I'd like to know more about this theme. Thanks for the info.  Sexy Lady, London."  While I'd like to think that sexy ladies in London are genuinely interested in the temperature of the real ale in a pub in Dale Street, Liverpool, I had my doubts.  Clicking on the link, I found myself on a website for call girls in London.  I'm not sure that CAMRA's efforts to make real ale popular with women have been that successful, but you never know:  perhaps London beer festivals have an exceptionally glamorous clientèle.

Out of curiosity, I checked the minimum price:  £150 for an hour, plus (I expect) drinks on top as well.  Somehow I doubt she'd be drinking London Pride.

I have of course deleted all spam.
